No change to concessionary travel

Below is an email from Age UK London:

Overall it’s mixed news (things to celebrate and things to be concerned about) in a difficult, complicated and evolving context. Important to take even small wins when we can and two days ago we were expecting much worse.

Here is our statement with Child Poverty Action Group.

Below are some more thoughts from AUKL. I will be sending out fuller updates tomorrow.

UPDATE – ‼️ CAMPAIGN WIN ‼️ | The Older Persons’ Freedom Pass and 60+ Oyster card are safe for now. Thank You to the thousands of Londoners that stood up for affordable travel.

We now need to come together to ensure the long-term future of older Londoners travel concessions. We have always been clear that travel concessions are not a luxury but a lifeline.

We are disappointed that the use of the Freedom Pass and 60+ Oyster card for essential journeys before 9am on weekday mornings remains in place. The new TFL funding deal covers the national lockdown but also the months that follow. Older Londoners have been travelling responsibly and h with extreme caution.  That will continue and is something we fully support. This is a difficult time for all generations and we know many older Londoners will be very anxious. We urge all Londoners to look out for each other.
