If you are over 60 or clinically vulnerable, you could be at higher risk of severe illness from coronavirus. You:

  • should be especially careful to follow the rules and minimise your contacts with others

  • should continue to wash your hands carefully and more frequently than usual and maintain thorough cleaning of frequently touched areas in your home and/or workspace

Clinically vulnerable people are those who are:

  • aged 70 or over (regardless of medical conditions)
  • under 70 with an underlying health condition listed below (that is, anyone instructed to get a flu jab each year on medical grounds):  etc etc

Email response:

Is the implied suggestion that working over 60's who are unable to work from home should be eligible for the furlough scheme???  That is one argument...

My University regards me as 'only working from home' on the basis of a self assessment all staff were asked to complete..

However is the argument PAIL may be making  a 'freedom of choice' one that people are entitled to make their own judgement and not simply be defined by age ( or morbidities) .. So if you want to drive your taxi/minicab and conduct business and you are 70 with multiple morbidities ( obese , diabetic etc) then PAIL should defend your absolute right to make the choice to do it??

Hmmm....  a bit of a dilemma???
