Dear Positive Ageing in London Colleague

This has been a good start to the year for us.

Our conference on Jan 10th 2020, around Making London Age-Friendly – Have Your say was successful in highlighting areas of interest and our recommendations around issues relating to the World Health Organisation’s Age-Friendly domain themes of Respect and Social Inclusion, Community Involvement and governance issues. Please find attached the presentations plus also a summary of our Recommendations to the GLA Age-Friendly programme. We very much hope that these ideas are taken on board so that there is a clear commitment by the GLA to actively involve older Londoners as partners throughout the ongoing process of making London an Age-Friendly City.

We have to thank London Metropolitan University for supporting us through the provision of facilities, an occasional venue for conference and the support of student placements around the website, database, administrative functions as well as we hope to support with marketing, promotion and event organising.

We held a useful committee meeting last Friday 17th January at Toynbee Hall and will let everyone know when we will be holding another.

We have 2 events in the pipeline which we will keep you informed about.

There will be a GLA conference around their proposals to make London Age-Friendly in February and when we are given their formal go-ahead to promote it we will be sent out further information and registration.

We are hoping with other older Londoners organisations to hold a follow-up conference at which we can agree on what and how we can help move this process forward. We are also hoping to try to get the general agreement over an Older Londoners Manifesto for the Mayoral election in May that can be used in hustings. We will be asking members to send us their suggestions for this later.

Finally, we hope to launch a Just Giving Campaign to try to encourage more people to send us donations to expand our work, now that we have received an anonymous donation from a supporter. We will send you more details when this is in place.

Kind regards

Chris Walsh
