The Economic Contribution of Older Londoners: GLA Report

Deputy Mayor Victoria Borwick launched Greater London Authority’s report ‘The Economic Contribution of Older Londoners at a Positive Ageing in London conference on Thursday 17th October.

The headline findings in the report are:

  • The paid work of older Londoners contributes an estimated £47bn per year.
  • An estimated 16% of older Londoners provide care to other adults, which represents an economic contribution of roughly £4.7bn per year.
  • An estimated 85,000 London families receive childcare from older grandparents which represents an economic contribution of £6oom per year.
  • An estimated 39% of older Londoners are regular volunteers, which represents an economic contribution in the region of £800m per year.
